Gov dissolves Delta internal revenue board
The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has dissolved the state Board of Internal Revenue Service.
The dissolution was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, on Monday in Asaba, Delta State capital.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Monday Onyeme, was the chairman of the board before he resigned to contest the 2023 governorship election in the state.
“Accordingly, the chairman and the members of the board are, by the announcement, directed to hand over all government properties in their possession to the most senior career officer in the establishment,” the statement read in part.
Meanwhile, motorists in the state have decried the continued extortion by the Board of Internal Revenue task force in the state.
The motorists complained of harassment by the task force and extortion of money from them, which ranged between N10,000 and N50,000.
When The PUNCH visited the task force’s office at the Oshimili South Local Government Council, it was observed that over 50 seized vehicles and tricycles were parked on the premises.
It was observed that motorists who paid between N10,000 and N30,000 before their vehicles were released, were not given receipts.
One of the task force officials, who did not give his name, told our correspondent that most of the vehicles seized had driver’s licence challenges, while others were said to have been impounded for driving against traffic.
