OMIS set to mark Maritime Day
To commemorate World Maritime Day on September 28, OMIS has announced the Maritime and Offshore Awards which will include a conference, exhibition, awards dinner.
World Maritime Day is organised by the International Maritime Organisation to raise awareness on the importance of the shipping industry.
A statement by the Chief Executive of OMIS, Femi Da-Silva, asked stakeholders to send their nominations, which will feature a capacity and professional development conference, exhibition and awards dinner to celebrate innovation and achievements in the maritime and allied industries.
The statement read in part, �The conference in partnership with some international partners will offer certificate for practical first aid training, emergency response and ancillary training for maritime workers, dock workers, port workers, maritime security, seafarers and truck drivers, among others.�
It said the event would bring together stakeholders in the maritime sector to address pertinent issues in the industry and proffer solutions to festering challenges.
It noted that winners would win cash prizes and other prizes to the tune of $5,000.
Listed among the judges were a former National Port Authority Port Manager, Mr Joshua Asanga; the Vice President, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, Mrs Ify Akerele; and Maritime law expert, Mrs Jean Anishere SAN.
