Peseiro defends Musa invitation

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has defended his decision to invite captain Ahmed Musa for Nigerias Sunday Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Super Eagles battle the Leone Stars on match-day five of the AFCON qualifiers at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia on June 18.

Musa was one of the 23 players invited by Peseiro for the AFCON qualifier.

Since the commencement of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, the captain has managed a combined 36 minutes in four games.

His low turnout for the Eagles in recent times has sparked a reaction from the fans, who frowned at the continuous invitation of the former Kano Pillars captain to the national team.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, the Portuguese tactician emphasised that Musa brings valuable experience and leadership to the team, contributing to the overall team spirit.

When building a team, you consider all situations and actions, Peseiro said.

I believe Musa can play for us, and we need his core experience, leadership, and command. His presence in the squad will create team spirit, organization, and a sense of unity.
