Ministry, experts discuss building collapse

The Lagos State Government has disclosed its plan to tackle incessant cases of building collapse in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluwole Sotire, said in a statement that the state government’s new initiatives of the Certified Accreditor Programme and the Certificate of Structural Integrity Programme “would herald a new dawn of efficiency (and) combat incessant building collapse.”

“In continuation of the series of public engagement on the new initiatives, the ministry is billed to meet and dialogue with members of professional associations in the built environment on the CAP and CSIP at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023,” the statement said.

He added that the CAP and CSIP would “boost public confidence in the system with the involvement of private professionals in regulatory activities in the built environment sector of Lagos State.”

“These initiatives, together with others, such as the preparation of masterplans, of which the Lagos Island Model City Plan is a significant part, indicate the determination of the state government to enhance livability and make Lagos State a 21st century economy as contained in the blueprint of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration,” he added.
