Join Edo gov race, youths urge Catholic priest
Some youths, under the aegis of Youth for Good Governance, have appealed to a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obiyan, to join the 2024 Edo State governorship race.
The youths made the appeal when they visited the Catholic priest at his office in Benin on Friday.
The spokesperson for the group, Idris Zekeri, said Obiyan’s commitment to true tenet of Christian faith and his outstanding efforts in empowering the masses attracted the group’s attention.
“The good work of the Reverend Father is well known and documented and we believe that he has the wherewithal to move the state forward. That is why we have come to request that he runs for the governorship in 2024 in Edo State.
“He has said he his going to think and pray about it but we hope that he will give a favourable answer as we see him as a true gentleman and a source of hope for the masses,” Zekeri told journalists after meeting with the priest.
Earlier, the priest thanked the youths for the proposition but said he would have to get God’s directive before he could take any such decision.
Obiyan said, “This is a request that I will need to think about and put in prayer. I thank you for the request and I will give you a feedback soon.
“Thank you for being good representatives of the people and I pray that God continues to bless you as you seek good things for the state.”
