Delta 7th Assembly lawmakers cart away furniture, others

Members of the outgone 7th Delta State House of Assembly have reportedly taken away with them furniture and related items in their offices, leaving the places empty.

A source in the Assembly told our correspondent that all the lawmakers’ offices had become empty after they moved away furniture and other things.

When we talked to some lawmakers on why they emptied their offices, they said there is furniture allowance for the 8th Assembly lawmakers to furnish their offices when they arrive.

No single pin was left in the offices; everything was removed. Even those lawmakers that are returning to the House emptied theirs.

All these are a waste of Delta State money, where we have a lot of things the money would have been channelled to.

When our correspondent visited the Assembly to ascertain the claim, it was observed that the lawmakers offices were empty, the source said.

When contacted, the Director of Communications, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr John Daz, said it was normal for outgoing Assembly members to go away with furniture in their offices.

Daz said, Thats is the practice here; it was they that furnished the place; so when they were going, they took their things along.

When the new people (lawmakers) come, they will furnish the offices.

The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevweri, was the Speaker of the 7th Assembly before his election as governor on March 18 and his inauguration on May 29.

The governor on Tuesday inaugurated the 29-member 8th Assembly.
