Lagos moves against abuse of open spaces
The Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority has sought the collaboration of local government areas, local council development areas, and other stakeholders in re-ordering the use of setbacks and incidental open spaces.
The General Manager of LASPEMA, Daisi Oso, made the call at a stakeholders� meeting on Wednesday, according to a statement by the agency.
Oso explained that the aim� of the engagement was to ensure the aesthetics of the Lagos city as well as security of lives and property of Lagosians.
He added that the move would ease movement of goods and services, waste management and coordinate use of setbacks and IOS.
The statement added, �The General Manager applauded Mr Governor�s support for all the initiatives of LASPEMA to monitor, sanitise and regulate all activities of the state�s setbacks and IOS to achieve a resilient, sustainable and inclusive planning that will continue to provoke economic growth of the state.
�Oso said that the proposed collaboration from the various LGAs and LCDAs and other relevant stakeholders would successfully rescue the state�s setbacks from all illegal activities like drug peddling, rape and armed robbery, among others.�
Oso pointed out that to proactively drive the implementation of the programme, data gathering was essential in order to ensure making informed decisions.
