Kwara gov marks Democracy Day with special needs children
Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has urged Nigerians to recommit to the ideals of democracy to build a stronger country.
AbdulRazaq, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, congratulated Nigerians on the 30th anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, calling it a watershed event that birthed the current democratic dispensation.
The governor said the best way to honour the heroes of democracy and sustain the gains of the era is to recommit to the ideals of democracy and join every effort to build a stronger country through patriotism and collective responsibility.
AbdulRazaq also urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubus Renewed Hope agenda to strengthen democracy and consolidate the gains of the past years in the area of collective security, infrastructural development, and public welfare.
It is my belief that our country is making appreciably steady progress in our democratic journey and the unending task of nation-building. With all of us playing our complementary roles, I have no doubt that the future holds so much promises for Nigeria as the leader of the black community, the governor said.
In another development, AbdulRazaq on Monday, visited the school for special needs in Ilorin, the state capital to spend the Democracy Day with the children, a not-so-surprising carryover of his deep affiliation with the underserved communities since his assumption of office in 2019.
Accompanied by the school officials, the governor inspected some facilities in the school, including classrooms recently fixed by the administration and those freshly affected by rainstorms.
He later interacted with the school head, Mr Abdulganiyu Olododo on pending issues in the school that once hosted the governments budget review sessions a gesture AbdulRazaq said was meant to refocus attention on the plights of the students and other underserved communities in the state.
AbdulRazaq then took photographs with the elated children and their tutors and cheered them, in a symbolic gesture of his commitment to always support the underprivileged to attain their full potential.
