Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash claims two, motorists stranded
Two persons have been confirmed dead in a lone accident involving a truck at the Kara end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
It was gathered that the accident occurred around 8pm on Wednesday while the truck was conveying tubers of yam inward Ogun State.
The crash led to a gridlock with many travelling on the two lanes of the road stranded for hours.
It was learnt that the driver was at a top speed when he lost control and crashed the truck into the concrete barricade along the road.
The truck fell on its side while the tubers of yams fell into a ditch by the roadside.
Two out of the four males sitting on top of the yams also fell and died instantly after the truck fell on one of them.
Some hoodlums, however, rushed to the scene of the crash to guard the yams. They also mounted a roadblock which later resulted in heavy gridlock along the axis as motorists spent hours trying to navigate the route.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ahmad Umar, confirmed the incident.
He attributed it to speed limit violations, brake failure and loss of control.
He said the vehicle had been towed away from the road and MTD Isheri Police Station had taken custody of the crashed vehicle as well as the corpses.
