Perjury: Group files affidavit of urgency for Tinubus trial
The Incorporated Trustees of Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative has called for the investigation and subsequent prosecution of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, before May 29.
The group made the call in an Affidavit of Urgency in support of a motion ex parte filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
In its main suit before the court, the group sought the courts permission to apply for an order compelling the Inspector General of Police to investigate and order Tinubus prosecution if found guilty of perjury regarding his alleged Guinean citizenship.
In the motion ex parte with number FHC/ABJ/CS/669/2023 and filed on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, ASRADI claimed that the President-elect lied on oath when he refused to give information regarding his Guinean citizenship in his Form EC9 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission in aid of his qualification for the 2023 presidential election.
The group said it resorted to the courts intervention as its request to the police to investigate the matter had not yielded fruit.
The group tendered as exhibit, a May 8 letter by its Executive Director, Adeolu Oyinlola, to the IG.
